So much hype, only for what many already expected to happen
In a not-so-shocking turn of events, what many had been speculating has come true. Rockstar announced, through X, the official delay of the next entry in the franchise, GTA VI. This announcement comes at a time when many publishers found themselves stuck in a release window limbo, where no one really wanted to launch their next game anywhere near GTA's date.
"We are very sorry that this is later than you expected", said Rockstar. "With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception." — expectations set by fans that, at times, are simply too unrealistic.
In order to give themselves more time to meet those goals, they made the tough decision to push the game back to May 26, 2026.
With a real date on the table, 2025 is now open for other contenders
As I mentioned before, any company thinking about dropping their game near GTA VI would have — most likely — stood no real chance. However, this decision now opens up the second half of 2025 for some big releases, like Borderlands 4 or Ghost of Yotei.
Will we, a year from now (or less), get yet another announcement from Rockstar, pushing the game back once again? Only time will tell.
Until then, enjoy yet another year of GTA V Online!
