Just a few days after the leaks, we’ve got official confirmation!
Here it is — the long-rumored and much-anticipated The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. Today, Bethesda hosted a livestream where they revealed the project and walked us through the journey that led to this remaster — which, honestly, looks more like a full-blown remake.
It’s now confirmed that the visuals were (re)built using Unreal Engine 5, while the game’s ‘brain’ still runs on Oblivion’s original engine.
The remaster comes packed with QoL improvements: redesigned UI/UX, a revamped leveling system that blends elements of both Skyrim and Oblivion, a third-person crosshair, and more.
Combat now features actual SFX (which the original lacked), and the world itself received similar audio treatment. That said, in the snippets they showed, animations — while updated — didn’t quite match the visual fidelity. There’s a moment where a greataxe takes down an enemy, and it looks like it doesn’t even connect — no weight, no impact. The same goes for blocking with shields or weapons.
That said… I can confirm the iconic NPC dialogue is still there!
Now, the big question: will there be modding support? With the same kind of creative freedom Skyrim still enjoys to this day?
So… when’s it actually dropping?
Well, all of this led to what everyone pretty much expected — a shadow drop. Oblivion Remastered is officially out now for everyone, including on Xbox Game Pass.
Not much more to add for now — and of course, we’ll have a full review up as soon as humanly possible.
As always, if you want to catch everything that was revealed, check out the full video above.
